10 things I do just for the love of my cats

"Time spent with cats is never a waste", once said Sigmund Freud. I can sign that 100% and so can my husband. For almost six years our two sibling cats Pinkie and Flocke live with us and every minute we spend with them we enjoy tremendously. But living with cats, besides all the nice and cuddly moments, can also become a challenge sometimes. Some things that are already commonplace for us would probably never be done without cats.

In order to experience and collect exactly these things that we cat owners do only out of love for our cats, GOURMET has created the campaign Because Of Love . After several years of living with two cats, I immediately thought of a few things that I really only do for my cats. I wrote down 10 things for you.

1 - Clear the best places for the cat

Every cat owner knows it, the cat always chooses the best place and we humans have to take what is left. With us on the couch just now in winter the place at the heater is particularly popular. But if the cat has already made himself comfortable there, we have no chance. Fortunately the couch is big enough for all four of us.

2 - Always fill up an extra glass of water

Our cats are absolute waterholics. Water is really preferred to any piece of meat. If I go into the kitchen to get a glass of water from the faucet, Pinkie comes running around the corner with big eyes, literally begging for water. It's not like there are several water bowls with fresh water all over the apartment. Pinkie still gets a glass of water just for himself, of course. Otherwise he would make himself in an unobserved moment to mine.

3 - Sleep in the most uncomfortable poses

As a cat owner it can happen quite often that you wake up in the morning totally tense or with neck pain. This is not because of the wrong mattress, but more because of the cat. If it comes to bed with you, it naturally prefers the soft pillow on which you like to lie. So that the cat just does not go away again, you prefer to sleep in funny poses. I just love it when the warm and soft cats lie with us at night.

4 - Drive miles for the one cat food

Cats are known to be pretty darn picky. Especially when it comes to their food. Just don't get the idea to buy a different cat food than usual just because you don't have the leisure to take the long way to the pet store today. The food from the drugstore around the corner is apparently not bearable for the cats. If you try it again, you have a bad conscience because you are afraid that your cat might starve. So off to the pet store, buy THE one food.

5 - Bathing is only possible without bath additives

As already written above, our cats are totally crazy about water. Not only from the water glass, also from the bathtub they love to lick water. Even though I love to relax in the bathtub with really lots of foam, I usually do without it for the cats' sake. Foam water is certainly not very stomach-friendly. Secretly, I'm way too happy when my kitties keep me company while I bathe.

6 - In the morning the cats are first

"But first coffee" - that's actually my motto. Not so if you have cats, because they don't want to wait a minute longer for their cat breakfast in the morning. I have to put my thirst for coffee in the back of the queue. But I like to do that, because at least they don't wake us up in the morning, but wait until we get up by ourselves. Of course I appreciate that.

7 - Put pillows in the most impossible places

Curious as cats are, they naturally want to be involved in everything you do. Be it in the bathroom, doing handicrafts, cooking or working on the balcony. So that the cats have it with observing also completely particularly comfortably, they get everywhere a cushion ready put. But be careful: if you want to use the pillow for yourself, make sure to remove the hair first.

8 - Do without decoration

If you have cats in your household, you will have to do without some decorative items. Our cats prefer to sit on the windowsill to have a good overview. Much too gladly I would still put some plants or candlesticks on the windowsills. However, I do not bring it over the heart to deny the cats their favorite places. So I prefer to hang up the plants and leave enough space on the windowsills for the kitties.

9 - Cover the walls with unsightly scratching mats

If you want to spare your beautiful furniture, you have to offer your beloved cats alternatives to sharpen their claws. Especially pure apartment cats need some of them. Since we don't have a typical scratching post - they're just too ugly - we put some scratching mats on the wall. These parts really can't win a design prize either. But since cats prefer to sharpen their claws in company, we have to put up with the sight of the mats willy-nilly. What do you do for your beloved kitties.

10 - Buy the lint rollers at the drugstore empty

We have two British Shorthair males and they are known for their very bushy and dense fur. The more fur such a cat has, the more it naturally loses. If it happens and all lint rolls are used up, absolute emergency breaks out, because we both also prefer to wear black clothes. In order not to stand there in any case without lint rollers, I always buy a very large supply and reap for it also sometimes funny looks

Despite all the supposed compromises that one makes with cats, there is nothing better for us than living together with our two male cats. They give you so much joy and give everything back in the form of love. There is always someone there when you come home in the evening after a long day. If one is feeling bad, cat notices it immediately and does not leave your side the whole day. When they are just lying there, they are so sweet that you would love to bite into them. Everything with cats is just so nice, you can even overlook the fact that there are always little cat litter crumbs lying around in the bathroom. #becauseoflove
