KaschKasch about their new desk system Slide
Cologne-based design duo KaschKasch brings more flexibility to everyday working life with their "Slide" collection for Renz. We talked to Florian Kallus about working while standing and office space after the pandemic.
So far you are known for beds, sofas, shelves and lamps, that is, for furniture in the private living space. Now you have created a collection for Renz that for the first time deals with the themes of office and work. What particularly appeals to you about it?
For us, all areas of life are exciting - whether living room, kitchen, office or airport. We had already dealt with the subject of tables in various collaborations over the past few years, including tables for work. However, the program ["Slide"]() is the most comprehensive and versatile project we have designed so far.
KaschKasch was founded in 2011 by Florian Kallus (front) and Sebastian Schneider.
Many of the tables for the Renz collection are height adjustable, making them suitable for working while standing. What is your experience with this - does it improve creative energy?
I have been working standing up for a few years now and notice how good it does me! I find it especially rewarding to be able to alternate between standing and sitting. There are things I like to do standing up, such as drawing, but I prefer to write texts sitting down.
Working while standing or sitting: The desktops are infinitely adjustable from 74 to 114 cm in height.
Many collections have been thought of in static terms. Your collection also offers castors so that tables can be moved without much effort, depending on the situation. How important is flexibility today - also under the aspects of home office and dual use?
Nowadays, flexibility is particularly in demand. The global pandemic demands a great deal of flexibility from us and the spaces in which we move. Whether at home, where the kitchen table also serves as a desk, or in the office, where the work table becomes a conference or meeting table. The more flexible a piece of furniture is, the more flexible the use of the space in which it is placed.

Many of the table variants can be equipped with casters under the legs and moved with little effort.
Working life is currently undergoing major changes. Do the pandemic and the move toward more homeoffice Einfluss your designs?
Of course, the pandemic has also kept us very busy. The situation in the office furniture segment was certainly better before the crisis, but we are positive about the future. We are convinced that our collection of desks and storage elements will remain relevant - the high flexibility, the warm colors and materials, the versatility make Slide fit for the future.
At the moment, many office spaces are more or less lying fallow. Would you venture a prediction for us: How relevant will the office remain?
Offices will still be relevant after the pandemic: as meeting places to work together or alone - exactly what the future of the office will look like also depends on the duration of the pandemic, its force, and cannot be predicted at the moment. It remains exciting.

You work with a small team. What are the biggest challenges you currently face?
We work in our Cologne studio, a former saddlery, together with our team on a variety of projects that run in parallel. For us, the process, the discussion and the joint exchange are enormously important - we try to take the most diverse perspectives again and again during the design process and product development. It helps enormously to work in a team-oriented way. Every project begins with market research and then proceeds through the exchange of ideas with sketches, 3D prints and drawings to the first prototype. A furniture project like Slide for Renz, for example, takes about two years from development to market launch.
