Malmö Tips & Travel Diary: On the border with Copenhagen

Malmö is located in Sweden on the border with Denmark. The sea separates Copenhagen from Malmö and if you walk on the beach of Malmö, like me, you can see Copenhagen on the horizon. Especially if you are planning a Skandi tour, I can recommend you to spend a few days in Malmö. It takes about 30 minutes by train from Malmö to Copenhagen and the hotels are usually much cheaper than in Copenhagen. Malmö also has a lot to offer. There is a beautiful old town with a market that takes you back to the 17th century, many small cafes and restaurants that are local and hardly touristy. There is also a shopping mall and some sights, like the 'Turning Torso' (the skyscraper you see in the background). There is also the 'Malmö House', which is probably more like a castle and has been converted into a museum for art. Initially, I dismissed Malmö as a small Swedish village, but then I was very surprised at how diverse and modern Malmö is. I especially liked the atmosphere. It was all a bit more familiar and relaxed than you know it from other cities. In the evenings, you could go out for a bite to eat and a drink in the city with fairy lights and pleasant music (see photo). There was hardly a location that was too crowded and where you had to stand in line for a seat, let alone make a reservation. This can be quite relaxed and uncomplicated, especially when you could die of hunger. But my personal highlight was the beach. Here I watched the beautiful sunset on the water in peace. It smelled like sea air and it was just great to enjoy the time there in a small group. Do you want to read another blogpost about Copenhagen and Stockholm?
