The readymade design ranks construction sites among the top ten of his favorite playgrounds. Left-behind pallets become sofas or lounge meadows, and unwound cable drums become tables. Dutchman David Derksen must have remembered these simple countermeasures when faced with a furniture shortage. At the very least, he describes his new collection "as a contemporary translation of traditional cable drums, in their aesthetics, as in their construction." Yet it's really only the shape that still recalls the wooden reels. Color and material have little in common with the rustic appearance of the source of inspiration. The base, stand cylinder and table top are each different and can be combined individually. They are finished in powder-coated aluminum or copper, as well as in ash wood or solid-colored MDF. A single, central screw is used to screw the discs onto the base. With multiple tables, the owner has a kit on hand at the same time that can be screwed together in ever different ways. tp
